Rules, Policies, and Procedures

At Sensory Getaway, the health and safety of all children and adults is a top priority. To ensure the safety and wellbeing of each individual, we have established the following rules, policies, and procedures. Sensory Getaway, located at 1610 Bennett Avenue in Idaho Falls Idaho operates Monday through Friday from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm, and on Saturdays from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. We are primarily focused on providing children of all ages fun, interactive, and learning experiences in an inclusive sensory-friendly space. Most of our activities are particularly centered on those with special needs and sensory sensitivities. Our facility features individual rooms, including one for light, water, music, swinging, calming, and one with sensory bins. We also have a large area for building activities, arts and crafts, magnets, a Lego wall, and dress up (imaginations). Sickness Policy Please stay home if your child or any accompanying adult has: A fever (100.4°F / 38°C or higher) within the past 24 hours Vomiting or diarrhea in the past 24 hours Persistent coughing, sneezing, or other respiratory symptoms Any contagious illness (e.g., flu, COVID-19, RSV, pink eye, strep throat, etc) An undiagnosed rash or skin condition As an underlying rule, if you wouldn’t want your child to be exposed to or catch the same illness from another child, please help protect others by keeping your child home when they’re sick. If your child has a chronic condition with symptoms that mimic an illness (e.g., allergies), please let us know in advance. Hand sanitizer is located within the building for use. Behavior Expectations Sensory Getaway encourages kindness, cooperation, and respect. Please help us maintain a calm and clean space by respecting the equipment, staff, and other patrons by using positive reinforcement, redirection, and problem-solving techniques. Physical aggression, bullying, yelling, humiliation, or disruptive behavior will not be tolerated and may result in a verbal warning or the child may be asked to leave for the day. Food and Drinks No food or drink (except closed water containers) are allowed inside the sensory rooms unless medically necessary. This helps us prevent exposure for those with various allergies as well as keep our facility as clean as possible. Clothing and Personal Items Children should wear comfortable play clothes. A change of clothing is advisable for those unexpected incidents. No shoes are allowed in the play areas. Cubby holes are provided at the front desk. If you do not want to take off your shoes, shoe booties/covers will be available for purchase. All personal items will be left in the cubbies at the front desk or hung up. Personal items include clothing, coats, shoes, purses, backpacks, diaper bags, boots, food, and any other items such as toys or stuffed animals brought from home. Adult Responsibilities Parents and adults are expected to supervise their child at all times. Please help us maintain a calm and clean space by respecting the equipment, staff, and other families. Remove shoes before entering the play area. Do not allow food or drink into the play areas. Only one child is allowed in a swing at any given time. Ensure that any equipment or toys used by your child are picked up and put away before moving on to another exciting activity. If your child puts anything in their mouth, please place the item in a sanitization bucket located in each room so the staff can sanitize it and put it back. Child’s Needs To continuously improve our facility and meet the needs of the children, we will ask for information regarding your child’s specific needs. This will assist us in obtaining more or better equipment, to provide additional assistance during your visit, and to have specific information in case of an emergency. These questions are on a separate form and the information provided is voluntary. The form will be kept in a locked cabinet and available only to Sensory Getaway staff and to certified or licensed medical personnel in the case of an emergency. In Case of Emergency A first aid kit is available for minor scrapes and cuts. A Life-Vac anti-choking device is available. Narcan is available in case of drug overdose. Security cameras are used to ensure the safety of all who attend and participate in our activities. There are four (4) emergency exits: two (2) on the East side of the building and two (2) on the West side. A fire extinguisher is located in the big play area on the East side of the building and another fire extinguisher is located in the big play area on the West side. If someone becomes extremely ill, injured, unconscious, or appears to need medical attention, Sensory Getaway personnel will immediately call 911 for assistance and Emergency Management Services. Any charges as a result will be the responsibility of the parent or adult. Equipment Usage: All of our equipment is child friendly. However, extra caution should be taken in certain areas. Only one child is allowed in/on a swing at any given time. Only one child at a time is allowed to jump on the trampoline. Some toys are small and may be choking hazards. Watch what your child puts in their mouth or up their nose. Although none of our sensory items are toxic, some are not conducive to eating. This may include (but is not limited to): sand, flour, rice, beans, corn, foam beads, paint, crayons, chalk, and magnets. Damage to equipment: Our equipment is carefully chosen to be safe, durable, and fun for everyone. We understand that accidents happen, but if something is damaged due to rough use, misuse, or lack of supervision, the parent or adult may be held responsible for the cost of repairs or replacement.
